ACP164: Erma, Toki, Terrorists and Resistance Fighters

 

Finally go the next batch of ACP164 figures done. There are 6 terrorist/resistance fighter figures (mix of lapine and non-lapine) and the character figures of Erma and Toki in EDF battle dress. Particularly like the rabbit in the black leather jacket and the vixen. Erma and Toki came out a bit flat as I was rushing it as I wanted to get them done before the Christmas break.

The terrorist figures will mean I can make a start on the Almata campaign next year (if I get the time!)

P.S. I do have a WOTR game on the table at the moment but other things keep getting in the way :-(

Russian Napoleonic 20mm - Musketeers, Grenadiers and Dragoons

 

Finally got my latest batch of Newline 20mm Napoleonic Russians finish.

First up the Tauride Grenadier Regiment (Livonia Inspection) of the 3rd Grenadier Brigade, 1st Grenadier Division.

Then the Perm Musketeers of the Smolensk Inspection. 2nd Brigade, 5th Division.

Finally the Mog(h)ilev Musketeer Regiment from Lithuania. 2nd Brigade, 5th Division.

Those finish the 5th Division. Hope to have the 6th Division done next year, which with the other troops will give me the whole of 1st Corps.

On the cavalry front I've just done the Kazan Dragoons (with Raspberry facings)...

And the Siberian Dragoons (with suitably snowy white facings).

The next batch I hope to start before Christmas with 2nd Grenadier Bde (completing 1st Grenadier Div) and two Cuirassier Regiments.

Figures for Five Parsecs from Home

 

Really impressed by what I've read so far of the Five Parsecs from Home rulebook. I've decided to use my 28mm Albedo figures for the crew (led by Erma and Toki of course). I rolled up the characters and then the first engagement. That ended up needing three War Bots and a Hakshan Investigator - whatever that is!

Initially I'd thought about using some Star Wars Clone Wars troopers but a hunt around the Net found these superb figures from Forlorn Hope Games. They've got a really nice Cylon vibe going, and the guy with the Rotary Cannon is just right for the Shell Gun.

As to the "Hakshan Investigator" that's described as an "odd, suited alien". Again Forlorn Hope Games had a suitable looking figure - signs of webbed feet and hands and a vaguely fish shaped head, all in a spacesuit and with a suitably alien looking gun - guess that will count as odd and suited.

Now I just need to finish off the ACP164 game on the table and set up the Five Parsecs scenario.

Dungeons and Dragons Figures

I acquired a box of old Grenadier Miniatures D&D figures from my daughter who was having a bit of a clear out. They are very "old style" and just had black undercoat. Faced with a gap in painting as I waited for my Napoleonic Russians to arrive I decided to paint them up. 

I've been toying with getting a D&D rule set for a while - and still am. I cut my RPG teeth on the A5 booklet D&D/Greyhawk edition, and then AD&D 1st Edition. Cost precludes getting D&D, and even AD&D 1e is not cheap; and lots of people say some later editions have slicker rules, we'll see.

I actually also have an old set of D&D figures that I last painted up when my daughter was about 8 to teach her RPGs - all heavily black-lined and glossed up!

20mm Napoleonic Casualty Markers

 When playing Steady Lads Steady we tend to use smoke puffs for damage markers. A unit can typically take up to 4 before it routs, but by then it has usually withdrawn behind own lines, so still having the puffs seems odd as they no longer show where the action it - and it eats up puffs! So I've gradually started painting up old Airfix casualty figures to act as 4-damage markers. In the Waterloo game I found that they were easily overlooked once placed with a unit, so with this batch I've tried orange and red edges to make them stand out a bit more. Think they look quite nice, will check them in context before painting more.

20mm Russians - A new Army (re) Starts

Having completed the French for Waterloo60 it is time to move on to a new Army. I started a Russian Army in plastics probably 7-8 years ago, but parked it when the Waterloo60 project got underway, so now its time to return to it. Figures are Newline and first up are a Jaeger Bn, 2 Musketeer Bn and a Grenadier Bn. Looking forward to a sea of green instead of blue!

ACP164: Dead Rabbits (and other critters)

Playing the ACP164 Lockdown campaign earlier in the year I half joking suggested to the group that we needed some dead rabbit figures (I hate the look of tipped figures in skirmish games). Chris saw the opportunity and so now we have a range of dead critters to buy! I bought 6 ILR and 6 EDF, and had great fun with pliers bending arms, snapping legs and then with a drill making bullet holes!

Rumours are that the campaign may restart which would be great, and a chance to use the figures - and there's the boarding action Kickstarter imminent.

Mystery SF Figures

Needing some figure to support a Traveller RPG idea I'm working on I remembered some figures (25mm), painted and unpainted sulking around in my Striker box. No idea where they came from - possible the original Games Workshop shop in the early 80s, but I finally painted up the unpainted ones.

If anyone knows who manufactured there's I'd love to know, the adventurer figures in particular are great sculpts.

WOTR Billmen, Pikemen and Dismounted MAA

Just finished my latest batch of figures for my War of the Roses armies. Units are:

• 2 x Billmen (Mowbray-Y and Stanley-Y/L)
• 1 x Pike/Spearmen (Mowbray-Y)
• 1 x Dismounted Men-at-Arms (Mowbray/Norfolk-Y, Beaufort/Somerset-L, Fitzalan/Arundel-Y, Stanley-L/Y)

Affinities and quantities reflect those in Kingmaker as I slowly try and build up the force to use Kingmaker as a campaign game.

Restored Airfix 54mm Models

Having a bit of a rearrangement of my wargaming cupboards I decided it was finally time to do something with the box of battered 54mm bits. In fact the models were in pretty good shape, the Cuirassier needing mane, arm, sword sheaf and carbine re-affixed, and the Bengal Lancer just needed a new lance. Not bad for ~45yr old models!

20mm WOTR Billmen

First proper troops of the Lockdown - a unit of Billmen for my WOTR armies. These are in the livery of Mowbray, Duke of Norfolk - one of the 50pt Kingmaker affinities. One of the long term aims is to have a force scaled to Kingmaker points so I can use it as a campaign system - we'll see. Figures are 20mm Tumbling Dice.

20mm French Napoleonic Carabiners and Empress Dragoons

Slow going but finally got to the end of my "elite" French Cavalry. I've got these in VERY old Airfix (Cuirassier conversions) but thought I ought to have a decent set for Waterloo next year. Figures are Newline 20mm.
