Waterloo 60 Article in Miniature Wargames #464

 

Miniature Wargames carried the whole of my 6 page article on our Waterloo60 game in the latest issue (464), with some lovely photo spreads and Dale's piece from Poland too! There was also a really nice intro from editor John Treadaway on what we did as well. 

Grid-based Wargaming - Part 2

The second part of my Grid-based Wargaming article is in this month's issue of Miniature Wargames.

Whereas Part 1 looked at general principles, Part 2 takes a number of popular rule sets (Sword & Spear, Pike & Shot, Blucher, Chain of Command and Skirmish Sangin) and looks at how well they convert to grid-based play.

Grid based Wargaming article in MW404

The first of my 2-part Grid Based Wargaming article is in this month's issue of Miniature Wargames (not longer with Battlegames!). The first issues looks at the generic issues, advantages and practicalities of playing on grids (mainly hex), whilst the second part will look at converting 4-5 standard wargame rule sets into grid play. As blog readers will know I almost exclusively play my wargames on grid.

Napoleonic Bicentenary Wargames Survey Results Published!

Back in 2015 James Fisher of the Wargaming Waterloo blog and I came up with the idea of doing an online survey of all the Napoleonic Wargames that had been fought during the Bicentenary. In the end we had almost 50 respondents and over 300 battles reported on. There is some great data in there, not only on what scales and rules people were using, but also on how close the wargames were to the historical outcomes. You can read the results in the latest issue of Miniature Wargames and Battlegames (#396 - happens to be the Salute issue!). I'm now working with a military history academic to work up a more academic article based on the data.
